It has now been confirmed that  the collapsed Pelican Marina at Lake Macquarie will be demolished.

The structure has moved even further overnight, leaving demolition as the only option.
In regards to the current tenants of the building, Marwan El-Chamy from DPI - Lands said “We will make every effort to retrieve their precious items – but that depends on how the demolition unfolds and the risks to safety. We understand that this incident is distressing for all the tenants, and we are now providing as much support as possible, including counselling and assistance with alternative accommodation.”
The removal will be overseen by the Department of Primary Industries – Lands with Public Works and RMS also helping.
Two barges are on standby and a boom will be used to capture any items that fall into Swansea channel.
RMS has also established a vessel exclusion area until February 19, with reduced speed limits for boaties in the area.
