Search continues for suspect after siege

Police are continuing to search bushland and residential areas after a lengthy siege at Kanwal this morning.

Just before midnight (Sunday 7 August 2016), police attended a premises in Wallarah Road after an alleged assault.

Upon arriving police were informed that the man was armed.

A perimeter was established and specialist police, including officers attached to the Negotiators Unit and the dog squad attended.

Three people left the house uninjured.

At around 9.30am police entered the house however they were unable to locate the man.

The man is described as being 40-years-old, Caucasian appearance, fair complexion with a skinny build. He has messy hair with a full beard. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.

Polair is also assisting with the search.

Police are warning members of the public to exercise extreme caution as this man may be armed. If sighted do not approach and call police immediately.



UPDATE: 9.40AM -  We have confirmed the siege is now over.  Wallarah Road is now open to traffic.  More details to follow

UPDATE:  8.55AM -  A police negotiator is in talks with a person on a property in attempts to encourage them to come out.  Dog squad also in attendance.  Reports of shots fired have not been confirmed by police.  


MONDAY, 8th August - 7am -  Wallarah Rd at Kanwal has closed in both directions due to an ongoing police operation between the Pacific Highway & Walker Avenue.

Heavily armed have been on the scene for several hours, with reports of a siege receiving no official confirmation. 

Diversions are in place.

Locals have been advised to stay away from the area.
