Excavator thief caught in early morning operation

Reports are coming in that the man suspected of being responsible for the recent thefts of excavators on the coast has been caught in a dramatic turn of events this morning.

In what appears to be another attempt to steal an excavator, eyewitnesses say the man was cornered at Irving Court, Hamlyn Terrace at around 4.20am,  but not before two police cars sustained heavy damage in the lead up to the arrest.

This follows lasts weeks attempt to steal another excavator, when the truck carrying it ended up crashing on the Pacific Highway Wadalba, where the suspect fled the scene. 

It is believed that nobody was injured during the arrest. 

A 45 year old man is currently being interviewed by police.

Police have yet to release a statement in regards to this mornings events.
