Man critical after single car crash

A man is in a critical condition in John Hunter Hospital after a single car accident last night.

Rescue crews and emergency services  responded to reports of a car into a tree along Hue Hue Rd at Jilliby at around 9:30pm Saturday night.

When services arrived on the scene they found a single vehicle had left the roadway and collided with the tree, leaving the occupant trapped inside.

Paramedics treated the driver of the vehicle, while rescue crews gained access into the vehicle via the rear door.  using the hydraulic rescue spreaders to open the door.

Crews then assisted paramedics with the extrication of the patient from the vehicle.  The patient was the flown to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - Official Site in a critical condition.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
