Police are investigating after a 17 year old girl was assaulted at Bateau Bay on her way to school last week.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the girl was running late for school and took a shortcut down a bush track at Tasman Ave, at around 8am on Friday 13th May.
It is believed the girl was listening to music through headphones and did not hear the man, ages in his 20's or 30's approach from behind. He pushed and punched her, causing her to fall. The man then kicked her in the head several times.
The girl screamed and the assailant ran off.
Chief Inspector Col Lott, of Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command told the Daily Telegraph that the girl did not get a good look at her attacker but described him to police as being heavily tattooed with dark hair, wearing trousers and a black hoodie.
The girl, a student at Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College was later taken to hospital where she was treated for bruising to her face and a cut ear.
Chief Insp Lott said another student reported seeing a man fitting a similar description on the track earlier that morning.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
