Surfer pulls drowning woman from water

A 42 year old woman has been airlifted to hospital after being found face down in the water at Avoca this afternoon.

It is believed the woman, who is believed to be from Sydney, got caught in a rip near the shark tower.  A nearby surfer spotted the woman and brought her to shore on his board. 

An off duty paramedic and nurse who were at the scene commenced Rescue Breaths before paramedics arrived.

The woman has been airlifted to Royal North Shore hospital in a stable condition.
