Teen hurt after firework explodes

Police are investigating the events leading up to a man receiving serious eye injuries after a firework exploded at a Blue Haven address this morning.

Around 12.20am today (Sunday 1 January 2017), a 19-year-old man was attempting to light a firework which subsequently exploded. The man sustained burns to his face.

He presented at Wyong Hospital and hospital staff notified police. The 19-year-old was transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition. He is expected to undergo further vision tests in the coming days.
