Woman charged over charity fraud

A woman will face court this month following investigations into charity fraud on the Central Coast.

Detectives from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command commenced investigations in June 2016 following reports of suspected charity fraud.

Police will allege a woman fundraised between $15,000 to $20,000 for a charity between 2013 and 2016 but did not provide the money to the charity.

Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home in Bateau Bay in July where they located charity-related items including raffle tickets which they allege were fraudulent.

On Friday 11 November 2016, detectives arrested a 42-year-old woman at The Entrance and conveyed her to Wyong Police Station.

She was charged with several offences including:

- Fraud (x4);

- Make false document to obtain financial advantage (x12); and

- Use false document to obtain financial advantage (x6).

The woman was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Wyong Local Court on Wednesday 30 November 2016.

 Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.
